Happy New Year!

I love the new year, I love the sense of ritual refresh and the reflection.

I love the new year, I love the sense of ritual refresh and the reflection.

I know it’s not for everyone- my parents have never really marked the occasion, but to me as an adult it’s the closest thing I have to back to school shopping. I’ll often buy myself something I’ll advised for the occasion. A pair of roller skates a couple of years ago, an iPad this year. It doesn’t hurt to wash my bedsheets and set up a new playlist either.

The last few years I’ve even been doing a tarot spread close to midnight, just for me. I don’t know shit about tarot, really. I listened to a podcast about it for a while, but I read my meanings on a free app that feels like a website from 2007, and this is the only time of year I try a reading. But now it’s a tradition to ask my (welcome to night vale themed) tarot cards “what’s the vibe for the coming year”.

I won’t go into my interpretation of this year’s draw too deeply lest I make a fool of myself, but the motto I have devised from it, my Agenda for the year, if you will, is this:

If your cup will run over, it must first be half full.

It’s a challenging motto for me. I struggle a lot with depression, and it is very easy for me to slip into pessimism without even noticing I’ve done it until I get angry at the ding of a children’s movie for being too simplistic. But pessimism hasn’t been serving me well. So I guess let’s try it the other way.

This is very introspective for one of these so let’s finish up with a wee round up of what I’ve been up to this week:

- I held an extremely corrupt election for the inheritance of my sims 4 legacy family

- play testing for Space Legs continued, and we learned a lot about the versatility of the Shoot move

- I played through Far: Lone Sails on stream (this VOD will go up on YouTube early next week), a beautiful game about maintaining what my chat called my “tractor whale” and travelling a long way across the land to reach a distant ocean.

And that’s me for this week. I had a plan to talk about my specific goals for the year but I had a weirdly long day, so perhaps next week.

For now, happy new year, and I’ll see you all again soon. <3
