What a week, huh? - Jack Blair's Game Newsletter

It's been a hell of a week. My dog died and I was sick most days. I replaced my normal Sims streams with Mass Effect (and everyone liked that?). And this was supposed to be the week I actually stuck to a work schedule. Ha!

So yeah. Not much work got done this week. I mean, I kept up with Promptober, mostly, and streamed on all the usual days (if unusual times). And I'm proud of that, but it certainly wasn't the organised week I expected when I blocked up my google calendar last weekend. But that's life, some weeks. I'm not mad about it.

Mass Effect

As I said above, I decided to start playing Mass Effect on stream when I was sick this week, in place of my normal streams. I wasn't feeling up to bringing the level of energy I need to be interesting in the Sims. I wasn't sure if it was going to be much good, but y'all seemed to love it? So I'll be making Mass Effect my Monday stream until I'm done with the series, I guess? Andromeda too, if there's interest. Tomorrow might still be a horror game, but based on the poll currently running, probably not.

If you're not familiar with my relationship to Mass Effect, I played these games non-stop through high school. I had them so memorised that when I was playing them through just for something to do, I would literally have a novel under my hands while I played and be reading it whenever the screen wasn't requiring my direct attention. Then in 2018, I wrote a dissertation for my Honours course on identifying contemporary fears of AI in the series. I could talk about these games for hours. And I will. So expect these streams to be a combination of lore dumps, fan discussion, and an attempt at genuine analysis. I don't have access to university resources these days so don't expect much academic rigour, but I'll do my best.
